The railway station became the center of town, serving the small town for years. In later years, the building was restored to its condition of 1915 by the San Diego Railroad Museum and La Mesa Historical Society and turned into a museum. On display are a steam locomotive, freight cars, the ticket/waiting area, telegrapher’s station, and a small exhibit area in the baggage room. This museum is free and open to the public on Saturday’s.
