Comic Con International

Features special guests, exhibitors, panels, seminars, previews and more on the world of comics, movies, television, animation, art. Artist’s alley, art auction, art show, autographs, film festival, and more. This is the largest comic book and pop culture event in the United States.

Annual Insect Festival

July 23 & 24

This one-of-a-kind event features thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, lizards, snakes, and the famous “Madagascar hissing cockroaches.” Children can practice bug collecting, make hands-on insect arts and crafts, and even taste cooked mealworm larvae in various flavors such as mesquite, teriyaki, and barbeque. Entomologists and other bug experts will be available for questions, and more than 20 informational booths will teach and entertain children and adults alike.

San Diego Beer Fest

July 23rd

The 6th annual San Diego Brew Fest returns to Liberty Station, and promising another fun filled day with beer, food trucks, and music. The event will feature dozens of local local and international craft beers, as well as San Diego’s most popular food trucks (food sold separately).

Admission is $40 for general admission (2pm to 5pm) and $50 for VIP (1pm to 5pm) and include the beer tastings.

The San Diego Brew Fest’s proceeds will benefit Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue whose aim is to find loving, lifetime homes for all Southern California Golden Retrievers in need.

Pawmicon

July 23rd

With PAWmicon’s growing pup-ularity, Helen Woodward Animal Center is delighted to expand its Convention of Comical Characters in Hazard Center’s luxurious space, the ultimate go-to destination for movies, specialty shops, restaurants, services, free parking, and more, and now, the place-to-be to see the snuggliest superheroes in the city.

The family-friendly event will include carnival games, snacks and the all-important PAWSplay Contest for superheroes and their heroic dogs. Contest participants can dress up as a duo, or simply enter their pawsome pup. The Contest is $10 to enter, and all participants will receive goodie bags that include two tickets to UltraStar Cinemas plus other items from Hazard Center tenants.

Those who stop by to partake in the revelry may catch sight of such uniquely comical critters as “Bark Kent” (aka Superdog), “The PAW-nisher,” “Woof Vader” (from The Empire Barks Back), “Robb Bark” (from Game of Bones), “Boo” (from Pixar’s PAW-nsters Inc.) and “Woof-erine.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three costumes.
